Outreach
Every month we will be involved in outreach.  Some of the activities will include sharing food with those in need, Operation Christmas Child, and visiting the food bank, local nursing/retirement homes and our school neighbors.

Classroom Celebrations
Yes, God has given us lots of reasons to celebrate!  As a class we will celebrate birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.  Valentine’s Day is celebrated with outreach rather than with cards and candy for classmates.  We try to focus more on sharing God’s love with others.  (Halloween and other secular holidays need to be celebrated outside of class.)

Kindergarten Fun
Star of the Day:  Each day a different student will get to be the “Star” of the day.  The “Star” is the teacher's special helper.  He/she will get to be the line leader, lead in doing the calendar and weather, take notes to the office, and whatever else comes along during the day.

Twisted Tuesday:  The second Tuesday of every month will be a “Twisted Tuesday” - a fun day filled with theme related activities.  Some examples include Apple Day, Chef Day, Snow Day, Pajama Day, and Pet Day.

Person of the Week:  Every child will have the chance to be the person of the week.  During the week we will learn more about the child through items from home and activities we do in class.  I will send information home requesting special items from home (such as photos or hand drawn pictures) prior to each child’s turn.

Mystery Can:  All kindergarteners have the opportunity to bring home the “Mystery Can.”  At home the child places an object inside of the can and (with his/her family's help) comes up with three clues as to what the item is.  The next day at school school the rest of the class gets to try to guess what is inside!

Buddy Bear:  At least twice during the school year each child will get to bring home Buddy Bear.  In “Buddy’s Travel Log” students get to write about and draw a picture showing the special time they had with Buddy Bear.  When Buddy is returned to school, the latest addition to the log is shared with the rest of the class.

Sharing/Show and Tell:  Every day each student earns a hand stamp if he/she has followed the classroom rules and has been a good listener and friend.  Once a child has earned ten stamps, he/she receives a golden sharing coin - the ticket to bring something from home to show to the class!    NOTE:  To eliminate classroom distractions we ask that children only bring toys and other items from home when they have received a sharing coin.
