Volunteer Policy

As partners in the important process of helping children learn, educators and parents form a powerful team. By sharing your time and talent, you can enrich the learning experience for students and provide needed support to teachers. Everyone who comes into Yakima Adventist Christian School has a valuable part to play in making this the best place it can be to learn.
Volunteers are valued at Yakima Adventist Christian School and they help make our school run more efficiently. To insure that students are safe we have adopted volunteer screening policy. Our commitment is to endeavor to provide a safe environment and a joyful experience for our students.
There are two levels of screening. No individuals will be allowed to serve as a volunteer until the screening process is complete.
Volunteer Basic Level 1
(on-site interaction with children with numerous other individuals present)
1. Must be known by the organization for a minimum of six months.
2. Must participate in the orientation/training program provided by the school.
3. Must provide three personal references.
4. Must complete and sign a Volunteer Information Form.
5. Must complete and sign the Washington State Patrol “Request for Criminal History Information
form for a criminal history and sex offender registry check.
6. Must be personally interviewed by the Volunteer Service Committee.
Volunteer Comprehensive Level 2
(regular interaction with children and accompanying them on off-site trips)
1. All the Basic Volunteer criteria must be met.
2. Must complete Comprehensive Volunteer, Level 2 training.
3. State and/or Federal Criminal history and Sex Offender Registry check.
4. Must complete the fingerprinting process.
Volunteer Recertification, Level 1 and Level 2
(required annually to continue volunteer status)
1. Must have participated in the Volunteer Seminar and Training at Yakima Adventist Christian
School.
2. Must have continued to live in the area since becoming a YACS volunteer.
3. Must not have participated in any activities which would compromise your ability to work safely
with students.
4. Must complete and sign Volunteer Information Form and Transportation Form (if applicable)

Our commitment to you is that we will endeavor to provide a safe environment and a joyful experience for you. We will keep all information received during the volunteer screening process confidential and it will be kept in a locked file.
Please be aware that the volunteer screening process will take some time. Contact the school office for more information and/or the necessary forms.
