Dress Code
ACADEMIC ATTIRE
The goal of the Academic Attire Policy is to clarify modesty and encourage neatness and Christ-likeness. The following are rules for appropriate school dress.
1. All clothing must fit appropriately and be clean, neat, and modest.
a. Clothing must be loose enough to allow free movement and not draw
attention to the shape of one’s body.
b. Pants must be worn at or very close to the waist. Saggy or low-riding
pants are not to be worn.
c. Shorts, skirt, and dress length are to be modest.
d. See-through materials, low necklines, sundresses, tank tops,
sleeveless blouses and shirts, and bare midriffs are not acceptable.
e. Clothes should be free from holes, rips, and paint.
f. Undergarments and midriffs are not to be visible even when bending
over or stretching upward.
2. Clothing with pictures or writing are to be supportive of Christian standards. (If in doubt, leave it at home.)
3. Gym wear is to be worn in the respective area only. Such clothing, including aerobic wear, leotards, and spandex is not classroom attire.
4. Walking shorts (no more than three inches above the knee) are acceptable school attire from opening day to October 31 and April 1 to the closing of school. Capri’s and pedal pushers are considered shorts.
5. Non-marking shoes are to be worn at all times in the school building. Non-marking running or crosstraining shoes are to be worn in the gym for play and for PE. Flip flops are not acceptable footwear for school.
6. Hair is to be kept clean, trimmed, out of the eyes, of natural color, and should not attract undue attention.
7. Make-up is to be natural and in good taste. Natural tone fingernail and toenail polish may be worn.
8. While the wearing of jewelry is a personal decision, it is not to be worn at YACS. Jewelry such as rings, bracelets, chains, earrings, and necklaces should be left at home. This includes “WWJD” jewelry. Jewelry worn to school is subject to confiscation and will be returned to the parents.
COMPLIANCE WITH THE DRESS CODE IS A PREREQUISITE TO CLASS ATTENDANCE. Non-compliant students will be sent to the office and asked to call home for a change of clothing.
