Homework and Assignment Planners
At the end of the day, I remind students to check their planner for  unfinished assignments that need to be taken home.  It is the student’s responsibility to complete this work and keep it in their binder to hand in on the day it is due.  Students are also responsible to have a parent sign the assignment planner each day to show that you have checked it to see if the assignments are completed.  I accept no late homework unless the student is ill or has made previous arrangements to use a "Grace Card."  All work should have a correct heading in order to receive full credit for the assignment.  No credit is given for no-name assignments, and students will lose 10% on a no-name test paper.  If students make the first quarter honor roll, they will not have to continue to have their planner signed unless they do not continue to make honor roll or their positive study habits are beginning to decline.

Students will receive two “Grace Cards” each quarter that will entitle them to get credit for a no-name paper or a late assignment. The assignment must be brought in the following morning.  If a student is sick, he/she has one extra day for each sick day to make up the work missed.
It is the student’s responsibility to find out what work must be made up, including getting missed notes, taking quizzes, tests, etc.

Spelling words—A list of spelling words is sent home for each unit.  Please keep that list since I do not send home weekly lists. There are 20 words per week for fifth grade and 25 words for sixth grade.  Final tests are generally on Friday, unless otherwise assigned.

Memory verse tests—Students will copy their weekly memory verses in their Bible composition journals at least one week before the test, normally on Friday.  Memory verse tests (100 points) will usually be on Fridays, unless announced ahead when we have a 4-day week and no school on Friday. Students must neatly write the verse in cursive and spell the words correctly from memory.

Grading and Sending Home Graded Work
Midterm grades are sent home on the dates indicated on your yearly calendar. I do not send grades home on a weekly basis, but  I will let you know if your child is falling behind and not turning in homework regularly. Sometimes students will be asked to take a graded test or assignment home to have a parent sign it if I feel that you need to see the grade. They will write this in their assignment planner as an assignment to return the next school day.

On Friday, graded student work, T.E.A.M. News, (my weekly note to you), and the School Newsletter are sent home in a plastic folder.  Students are required to have the parent signature page signed and must bring the folder back the next day school is in session.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding how a paper was graded, please let me know by returning it in the folder and putting a note in the comment section of the parent signature page.  If the folder is not signed and returned on time, the student will lose a few minutes of recess to write sentences as a reminder to bring the folder the following day.

The following percentages are used to determine letter grades.
