Our 7th through 10th grade students begin each year at a special Leadership Retreat learning their roles as leaders here at YACS as well as in God's Kingdom. They have a lot of fun while developing ways to use the gifts God gave them to lead others towards Him. They discover how to use the unbelievable influence they have on those around them, especially the lower classmen, in a positive way.
Each September our 9/10th grade homeroom leaves to Packwood Lake on an amazing three day backpacking trip. Students head out into nature together in an amazing bonding and team building adventure.
On even numbered years (coming up during the 2017-18 school year!) the 9/10th graders go on a week long trip to discover the history of the northwest. They go to places such as the flight museum in Tillamook, Fort Clatsop and Fort Stevens outside of Astoria, the Maryhill Museum outside of Goldendale, and Mount St. Helens.
Every odd calendar year the 9/10th graders leave the comforts of home to share the love of Christ in a foreign land. Students head off to somewhere such as Guatamala into villages with very little, if any, electricity, running water, or other modern conveniences. It is a fabulous opportunity to grow as a Christian as students get w-a-y out of their comfort zones to do something incredible solely for the benefit of others. We build a much needed church, put on Evangelistic Meetings and Vacation Bible School, and get to know the locals by visiting them in their homes and helping out however we can. Our students leave Yakima with the intent to bless others but somehow always come back blessed in immeasurable ways. It is an incredible experience, one that affects our students' lives for an eternity.
